HCMC, Binh Duong step up infrastructure connection

In the meeting in Binh Duong, officials of the two services of Communications and Public Works discussed plans to build and upgrade roads and bridges that link up the two localities. On the agenda were also joint sanitation projects to improve the environment.

HCMC officials suggested pooling resources to build a bridge named Phu Long 2 that will link the city's District 12 with Lai Thieu Town of Binh Duong.

The new bridge, which will be built late this year on the upper section of the Saigon River, will replace the existing Phu Long Bridge, which is deteriorating and deterring normal traffic flow.

Officials on both sides agreed that the current bridge could not ensure the increasing traffic flow, thus hindering business activities and the livelihood of people in the areas.

The new bridge, planned to be 300 meters long and 16 meters wide, will require an estimated investment capital of VND270bil, or US$17mil. Both sides will contribute funds for the project.

Besides, HCMC and Binh Duong will also share the cost for upgrading the current Phu Long Bridge and a 2.7-km section of Interprovincial Road 43 linking Thuan An District of Binh Duong and Thu Duc District of HCMC.

The cost for site clearance and building approach roads on each side of the bridge will be the responsibilities of the two localities, respectively.

Apart from these infrastructure projects, officials also agreed on joint sanitation projects.
